This Licensing Agreement governs how content on Cinee can be licensed by third parties and how creators retain control over their intellectual property. Cinee provides a built-in licensing marketplace that allows creators to offer their films for commercial use.
Creators retain full ownership of all content they upload to Cinee. Uploading content to Cinee does not transfer any ownership rights to Cinee or any third party. The only rights granted to Cinee are those necessary to operate the Platform, as described in our Terms of Service (Section 4.1).
Plain language: Your films are yours. Cinee needs a license to display and stream them on the Platform, but we never own your work and we never license it to third parties without your explicit permission.
Creators can offer their content under the following license tiers through the Cinee Marketplace. Each license is granted per-work and is non-transferable unless otherwise stated.
Creators have full control over how their content is licensed:
Any individual or entity that licenses content through Cinee ("Licensee") agrees to:
AI Training Clause: Licensed content may NOT be used to train, fine-tune, or evaluate machine learning models unless the creator has explicitly granted this right via a separate AI Training License addendum. This protection is included by default for all content on Cinee.
| Transaction Type | Creator Share | Platform Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Standard License | 70% | 30% |
| Extended License | 70% | 30% |
| Exclusive License | 80% | 20% |
| Custom / Enterprise | Negotiable | Negotiable |
Licensing revenue is included in the creator's weekly payout via Stripe, subject to the same minimum threshold and payment terms as other earnings.
The legal landscape for AI-generated content is evolving. Cinee's licensing framework operates on the following principles:
Our position: We believe AI-generated films represent genuine creative work. The prompts, curation, editing, storyboarding, and artistic direction that go into producing an AI film are acts of authorship. Cinee's licensing framework is designed to treat AI filmmakers as the creative professionals they are.
Cinee provides a mediation process for licensing disputes. Either party can initiate a dispute via the Platform's resolution center. Cinee will attempt to mediate within 14 business days. If mediation fails, disputes are subject to the arbitration terms in our Terms of Service.
If a creator discovers their content being used beyond the scope of a license, they can file a report via the Creator Dashboard. Cinee will investigate and may revoke the licensee's access, issue refund demands, or take legal action on behalf of the creator in clear-cut cases.
For studios, agencies, brands, and other organizations needing custom licensing arrangements — including volume licensing, white-label use, or enterprise-wide access — please contact our licensing team at licensing@cinee.com.
We may update this Licensing Agreement as laws and industry standards evolve. Material changes will be communicated at least 30 days in advance. Existing licenses are not retroactively affected by changes to this agreement.
